The businesses which are engaged in
trading of painting and calligraphy are as many as more than 4000. However,
creative cultural industries in cultural collection and private collection of
paintings and calligraphy in the whole city are very few and make less profit
and value.
Xiamen should be developed into a
cultural special zone.
President of Xiamen Artists Association suggested
that Xiamen government and private enterprises should jointly push the
development of cultural industry.
Many urban collectors and artists like
settling down at Xiamen. It has an environment of great potential. Otherwise,
there are also a lot of venues and old factories at lakeside. With the
supportive policy from the government to let in more collectors and collection
agencies, can we develop Xiamen into a a cultural special zone?
Besides, the supports from entrepreneurs
are also very important. Many exhibitions are operated by private enterprises
instead of the government. Many entrepreneurs
shift from real estate to culture.
The injection of folk capitals will also
help Xiamen build a better market. Like I
mentioned just now, those galleries and museums are all private. Many entrepreneurs
also prepare to set up their own galleries.
In addition, I suggest large auction
houses should set up branches in Xiamen. I heard that the entrance standard for
high-value works is very high in Xiamen. They require a expert team for
evaluation. The scales of local auctions are quite small. According to the
newspaper, the turnover of painting and calligraphy auctions in Xiamen is less
than 80million Yuan. However, only one
lot valued 420million Yuan in the year before last. The auction houses in
Xiamen are so small that its auction market flows to outside. If these problems
can be well settled, the auction market in Xiamen will be more prosperous.
Why do Xiamen artists and collectors
keep low profile?
Firstly, they like their collections. They
are not willing to take out and exchange too much with others since others will
also want them once they see them.
Secondly, they don’t take collection as
a utilitarian behavior. They don’t do investment, but only take out for playing
as things they like.
Thirdly, many collectors turn into
experts and theorists since they like the collection. One of my friends
collects thousands of ink stones. I cannot exchange with him on this. He
changes a simple hobby into yearning for knowledge. This impresses me much.
Fourthly, they have bigger plans, namely
to set up professional art gallery.
